Historical Tibet
The historical provinces of Tibet are Ngari, Tsang, Ü, Kham and Amdo.
The administration of Tibet was reorganized after the Chinese invasion in 1950. The Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) covers less than half of historical Tibet. The other Tibetan-speaking areas are part of the provinces of Gansu, Qinghai, Sichuan, and Yunnan.
